The Swan and the Child Catcher ...

The Second of June saw the club visiting the world famous Swannery at Abbotsbury under the watchful eye of Charlie Wheeler.

To us, he's swan photographer numero uno ... but to the swans, he's no better than the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

Some of them hiss and lunge, threatening to take chunks out of him as he passes by ... they don't know that he's checking them, tagging them and making sure they are fit for the adventures that lie ahead ...


The evening was well attended, right across the spectrum, from our longest standing members to the very newest, a wide range of abilities and types of equipment showed up ... and there was a lot to point a camera at ...


Some of the sightings included at least one Goodchild in the wild, a lot of long lenses and the child catcher using the programme secretary's leg as a lens steady.

But most of all, there was wildlife ... everywhere ... it was an opportunity to get amongst it, without the hindrance of the public getting in the way.
